Anyone who knows me will tell you I have the worst sweet tooth, and one cold-weather favorite that makes me weak in the knees is a good European-style hot chocolate. Naturally, I thought why not add wine? This recipe can be made with or without wine, but the addition of red wine adds a unique layer of complexity to a classic treat. This recipe is quite decadent so a dollop of fresh whipped cream is the perfect topping.
Servings: 2
Ingredients:
¾ of a good quality chocolate bar, chopped (I used Lindt 70% dark, 100g)
1 cup of milk (I prefer to use a whole or 2% milk)
⅔ cup Cha Cha Cha red blend wine
1-2 Tbsp brown sugar, optional (to taste)
½ tsp vanilla extract
1-2 Tbsp of cornstarch (depending on your desired thickness)
Instructions:
Step 1:
Chop the chocolate.
Step 2:
In a medium-sized saucepan, combine milk, wine, chocolate, vanilla, sugar, and cornstarch over low-medium heat. Stir until the chocolate is melted and you have reached your desired consistency.
Pro tip: I usually start by adding a smaller amount of sugar and cornstarch and testing the flavor and consistency before adding more.
Step 3:
Pour into cups and serve with whipped cream.
Cheers!
